On the surface, Gemcraft Labyrinth may seem like an unassuming game. You play as a girl who must collect gems to complete her quest, but what this game lacks in depth it more than makes up for in charm and creativity! It’s really not that difficult to play either, so there's no need to worry about spending hours mastering it. A fairly simple concept, players simply use mouse clicks to shoot projectiles at enemies that may or may not be armoured. It’s like a game of chess, with the added advantage of seeing your opponent’s next move before committing to it! The game is relatively simple; there are only two modes of gameplay; Campaign and Survival. Each mode offers you different challenges. The campaign mode offers you twenty three levels, which get progressively harder as you go along. However, this is not so much a problem in the later stages of the game. At first you are introduced to types of towers, which are upgradable when you upgrade your skills. The gem types are red, green and blue. These gems are important to the game because when you have enough of one particular gem it can be used to build special towers that have certain properties. The survival mode offers you infinite levels with the same difficulty curve as before but with one rule, each gem type carries a penalty when used in freeplay mode! Meaning that in order to achieve higher scores in freeplay mode you cannot rely heavily on one colour of gem to do all the damage. You are awarded ‘star’ ranks, which is a rating of how well you performed in the level. These ranks help to unlock new chapters and levels. The game has a somewhat childish look to it and it feels like your playing a game from the 80’s and 90’s. The sound is pretty much the same thing. I’d describe it as ‘retro’, which never goes out of fashion. The fact that the graphics aren’t top of the line doesn’t undermine the quality or fun of this game. It has a lot of charm and because of its retro look, you get to feel like your playing a nostalgic game from twenty years ago! As you get deeper into the game, you will be rewarded with special spells and gems that can only be obtained by progressing through the levels in Gemcraft Labyrinth. Every level is well designed and it gets more challenging as time goes on. cfa1e77820
